Design and Research

At the beginning, I researched existing companion apps on the market to gauge how to design my own companion app.

Features that I found common in the apps that I looked at include a bar at the bottom of the screen which allows easy access to the menus and a dark theme which looks very sleek. I decided that these would be key components for the design of my app. Following this, I created a quick app layout that would look aesthetically pleasing.

I then created some initial ideas of games that I would make the app for, before settling on a tactical shooter.

I conducted some research on competitor games such as Valorant and took inspiration on game content and colour schemes.

Next, I decided that a gold colour would stand out well against a dark background and used complementary colours to find a blue colour to contrast against the primary colour.

As types of guns are key components of tactical shooters, I conducted some extra research into gun variants that would be suitable for my game and also specific guns.

I also looked at fonts that would suit the game and found some on Figma and Adobe Photoshop that would work well as they stand out.

I created a list of icons that I would need to create in order to fully convey my ideas in the app as they are key symbols for the user to recognise.

In addition, I looked at other colours that would be useful for the icons to complement the main colours.

Finally I created some user profiles of the intended audience for my application to aid me with the direction of the project.
